The Hottest Hairstyles for Spring/Summer 2021
After the horror that was 2020, we can honestly say we’ve never been so excited for the arrival of spring and summer. And, seeing as our days are about to become longer, brighter, and warmer, we’re of course thinking about all of the new outfits we can wear and, more importantly, the hairstyles we can try out!
We don’t know about you but it feels as though the past year has been a never-ending cycle of dry shampoo and messy buns. It’s time to move on. With your brushes, bobby pins, and hair elastics at the ready, prepare to be inspired by Evalectric’s roundup of the hottest hairstyles for spring/summer 2021.
Headbands
You’d have been forgiven for thinking that, after leaving kindergarten, you’d never own another headband in your lifetime. Fast forward to 2021, however, and we’re betting you have a pretty extensive collection on the go!
If not, don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time to jump on this trend. As headbands continue to gain popularity with both chain stores and designer brands alike, we’re seeing more unique styles emerging than ever before.
To give you style even more of a special edge, grab your Evalectric Curl Wand and give your hair a few extra waves. This will add texture beneath your headband, leaving your locks looking more voluminous.
High Ponytail With A Loose Side Layer
It’s all about elevating your ponytail in 2021 and this style just does that. This look is seriously glamorous though we still think it works with a casual outfit too!
To create yours, start by sectioning off the desired amount of hair at the front of your head. If you want a more subtle look, try a 1-2 inch piece. For something more dramatic, a three-inch section should do the trick!
Clip this section away, then brush the rest of your hair into a high ponytail.
Try to comb it all in such a way that the hair is smooth and sleek without any bumps or fly-aways if you can. Secure the hair with an elastic, then take a small section from your ponytail and wrap it around. Secure with a bobby pin so the elastic is concealed.
For the section you left out, you can either leave it straight or (as we like to do) use your Evalectric Curl Wand to curl it loosely away from your face. Leave this section down or tuck it behind your ear, it’ll look amazingly chic either way!
Face Framing Tendrils
Want to make every hairstyle look instantly elevated?
Face framing tendrils are the way forward!
Though much like Alice bands we thought we’d left this style behind for good, it seems those two face-framing pieces of hair are well and truly back.
However, these are not the thin and wispy, product-heavy tendrils of the 2000s, oh no. Nowadays, face-framing tendrils should look natural, product-free, and as if you simply loosened a couple of pieces from the front of whichever style you’re rocking on a whim.
Of course, if you can’t seem to get those tendrils to stay put, a little help from some of your heated styling tools won’t hurt! Use the Evalectric Curl Wand to strategically curl those tendrils around your face, or go with one of the Evalectric hair straighteners if you prefer a sleek and straight finish.
Air Dried Waves
If you ask us, spring and summer hair should be beautiful yet effortless. That’s why we’re such huge fans of the air-dried waves look!
Of course, if your hair is naturally curly or wavy, this style will be super simple for you to create. Simply spritz a little protective shine spray into your lengths whilst wet and leave to dry!
Does your hair dry pretty much straight?
Don’t worry!
You can still rock this look. Once your hair is around two-thirds of the way dry, go ahead and braid your locks. Let them finish fully drying like this then release your braids. You’ll have natural-looking waves that look seriously beautiful after very little effort. What a dream!
Of course, if you still can’t get your hair to dry in the right way, you could always cheat…Don’t worry, we won’t tell!
The Evalectric Curl Wand is ideal for creating natural-looking curls. Finish off with the Evalectric Styling Spray for a look that has true staying power!
Center Parted Ponytails
One of the most elegant ways to wear your ponytail this spring and summer is, happily, one of the simplest to create. In fact, if you already wear your hair in a center part, most of the work is already done!
Start by creating a part down the center, then simply gather all of the hair and secure it with a hair elastic at the nape of your neck.
For extra style points, you could even take a section of your pony and wrap it around the elastic to conceal it. Secure with a bobby pin and you’re all set.
We love how this style adds a chic touch to literally any outfit your wear it with from jeans and a t-shirt to chic evening dresses.
Curtain Bangs
According to the internet, 99.9% of us lost our minds and cut our own bangs during the lockdown.
Now, if you’re one of the lucky 0.01 % or you somehow managed to make your amateur chop look amazing, we sincerely applaud you!
If not, we totally feel your pain. Luckily, as they begin to grow out past the awkward stage, you (or hopefully your stylist) will be able to fashion them into the chicest haircut going, curtain bangs.
Expect to see this look everywhere throughout 2021. It’s the perfect way to get bangs without really getting them, plus, it’s much more practical for warmer weather as they don’t lay flat against your skin.
Hair Scarves
Not only do we love how many gorgeous headscarves are out there right now, but we also love how versatile this simple accessory can be!
Honestly, the ways you can style a hair scarf feels endless…
Wrap it around a high or low ponytail, or tie it around a simple bun and leave the excess lengths to float downwards underneath. Or, wrap one around your head and tie a bow to create a headband whether your hair is up or down.
You could even use one as the third section of hair in a braid to create a unique finish.
We suggest opting for a few neutrally colored hair scarves so you can pair them with lots of different outfits. Then, you can always add to your collection with printed ones that add a stylish touch to more simple ensembles too!
Half Up Half Down With A Claw Clip
This may be one of the simplest hairstyles on our list, but that doesn’t change how much we love it. If anything, the reason that it takes literally seconds to create is almost as enticing as how amazing it looks when it’s done!
To create this look, simply section off the top part of your locks. You can choose any amount of hair you wish, but we recommend using just above your ears as a guide. Then, simply pull all of this hair towards the back of your head, and secure it in place with a claw clip.
Aaand, you’re done! Leave it just like this or loosen a couple of those face-framing tendrils we talked about to give your look a more styled edge.
Loose Ballet Bun
Forget the slicked-back, product-heavy buns you wore to dance class as a child. These ballet buns are way chicer and much kinder to your locks.
There are so many ways to create this look but the easiest way we’ve found is this…
Make sure your hair is combed through, this will prevent gaps from forming as you scoop it up. Next, using your hands instead of a brush, gather all of your hair up towards the top of your head as if you were creating a ponytail.
Once you’re holding it all up at the desired height, twist the hair and wrap it around itself. Hold this in place, and secure with a hair elastic.
No slicked-back strands, just a casual up-do you can wear from day to night!
Center Part Bun
A favorite for off-duty Victoria’s Secret models, the center part bun is one of the easiest and chicest hairstyles you’ll ever come across.
Make sure your hair is parted neatly, right down the center. If you have any stray strands, go ahead and neaten them up before you get started on the bun. Next, simply comb all of your locks back towards the nape of your neck.
Once all of the hair is gathered, start twisting it all together until you can wrap it around itself. Use a clear elastic and a couple of bobby pins if you need those too, and hold it in place.
Add a gorgeous pair of cat-eye sunglasses and, we swear, you’ll feel like you’re heading to a front-row seat at fashion week!
90’s Pigtails & Pigtail Braids
Don’t believe us that pigtails are back?
Go ahead and ask the likes of Gigi Hadid and Ariana Grande!
These stylish celebrities know how to rock this adorable style in a mature and sophisticated way and we’re loving it.
To pull this look off yourself, find which style option works for you. If high, Spice Girl-Esque bunches don’t work for your aesthetic, opt for low braided pigtails instead.
On the other hand, if you prefer to wear your tresses mostly down, section off your hair and wear just the top half in pigtails instead!
Spring/summer styles don’t get cuter, that’s for sure!
Half-Up Twists
When it comes to ‘go-to’ hairstyles for spring and summer, this will be high on our list this year.
To create this eternally pretty look, begin by sectioning off the front two areas of your hair. Start from the front and stop at your ears.
Next, take both of those sections and begin twisting them both inwards towards your head. As you do this, move your fingers along towards the ends of your hair, pulling the hair gently back as you go.
Once both sections are fully twisted and you’re holding them at the back of your head secure them with a decorative clip. Pull a couple of pieces loose at the front to finish off the look.
Alternatively, split each front section into two and take it in turns to wrap the pieces on each side around one another until you reach the back of your head.
We adore this versatile style for everything from workdays to weddings!
Face Framing Braids
Want to know another stunning, celebrity favorite hairstyle?
We thought so!
These face-framing, boho-chic braids have been spotted on everyone from Hailey Bieber to Margot Robbie. They take mere minutes to create and look simply stunning with the more laid-back outfits we tend to wear throughout spring and summer.
What’s more, it’s a great way of wearing your hair down whilst keeping it out of your face when temperatures soar.
Divide out the front two sections of your hair, then holding them slightly diagonally towards the back of your head, begin braiding them. Once you reach the end, simply secure them with a clear elastic to keep the style looking light and effortless.
Have bangs?
No problem!
Do as Hailey does and begin with a clear elastic at the top to hold them in place!
For the section you left out, you can either leave it straight or (as we like to do) use the Evalectric Curl Wand to curl it loosely away from your face. Leave this section down or tuck it behind your ear, it’ll look amazingly chic either way!
Half Up Half Down Bun
Much like the ballet bun, this is a great way to style your hair up and away from your face without having to put all of it up. Perfect for hot days when you need it out of the way but still want to wear it down.
We love to wear this trending 2021 look in two ways…
The first way is to gather the top section of your hair, brush it all neatly back, twist it around, and secure it in place with an elastic. We also love to add a simple hair scarf or floral scrunchie around the bun for an extra pretty warm-weather look!
The second way allows more of the hair to stay down. For this style, take only the center section of your hair on top of your head, and comb it back. It’s more like styling the section that would be (or is) your bangs.
This offers a similar look but creates a little more volume at the top and a smaller bun at the back. What’s more, you can make this style look super casual for off-duty days, or add a pretty decorative slide for more glamorous occasions!
